Secretaries Dorothy H. Thompson Thelma K. Malin Jane R. Transue Such duties as keeping records about every student, typing, taking dictation, an- swering the constantly ringing phones, and mimeographing the midyear examinations were ably carried out by the secretarial staff in the high school office. Our school would have been lost without their in- dispensable behind-the-scenes help. Few students realize how many extra jobs were done by these aides. It was the secretaries who carefully prepared report cards and collected material for the handbook. Sen- iors were well acquainted with them since the secretaries helped patiently with col- lege and scholarship applications. These women executed the usual duties of a sec- retary and at the same time performed in- valuable extra services. Miss miller's friendly smile greeis students as they enter Mr. Holmes' office. 28 Mrs. CLEMENTS keeps the high school office running smoothly.

Maull. R. Weiss. As in past years, Upper Darby was host to student teachers from several neigh- boring colleges. These cadets stayed at our school for eight weeks as part of their reg- ular training program. Here, they learned teaching techniques under the direction of experienced faculty members. Many times student teachers actually took over the teaching of classes, and they willingly furnished extra help to students who needed it. In addition to assisting in the classrooms, cadet teachers supervised study halls and detention hall and worked in the attendance office and the infirmary. Mr. Davis, a student gym teacher, demonstrates the first 27 exercise in the May Day drill. Mrs. dugan, one of our cadet teachers, consults Mrs. MacNair about her schedule for the year.

Cafeteria and Bus Drivers Mary periz and Auguste Klumpp helping to serve the hungry students that swarm through the lunch line every day. The cafeteria, probably the most popular room in the school, was filled with tantalizing aromas stemming from the kitchen where appetizing, well-bal- anced meals were prepared. The cafeteria staff, under the direction of Mrs. E. Mar- tha Vickers, worked from early morning until midafternoon to keep Upidites well- fed and happy. Well-known to many hundreds of Upidites are the bus drivers who faith- fully take the students to school each morning and home each afternoon. In ad- dition to performing this necessary task, the bus drivers, under the direction of Mr. John Burris, transport the band and various athletic teams to and from games. Front row, L. to R.: A.
