Providing educational opportunities for Upper Darby’s ten thousand students in the elementary, junior, and senior high schools was the main function of the Up- per Darby School Board. Under the chair- manship of Dr. George G. Dilworth, the Board modified the school curricula so that students would be better prepared to meet the challenge of modern tech- nological advancement. In recent years, the Board engaged in an extensive expansion program which included the construction of a new wing and gymnasium for the Senior High. Maull. R. Weiss. As in past years, Upper Darby was host to student teachers from several neigh- boring colleges. These cadets stayed at our school for eight weeks as part of their reg- ular training program. Here, they learned teaching techniques under the direction of experienced faculty members. Many times student teachers actually took over the teaching of classes, and they willingly furnished extra help to students who needed it. In addition to assisting in the classrooms, cadet teachers supervised study halls and detention hall and worked in the attendance office and the infirmary. Mr. Davis, a student gym teacher, demonstrates the first 27 exercise in the May Day drill. Mrs. dugan, one of our cadet teachers, consults Mrs. MacNair about her schedule for the year.
