ADMINISTRATION JOHN H. TYSON To the Class of 1960: You have now completed the third step in your formal education. May I compli- ment you on this achievement. During this brief span of time you have observed that the great social and eco- nomic changes are taking place through- out the world, that the tempo of life has risen, and that the demands upon those in |x sitions of leadership and responsibil- ity have been sharply increased. The fu- ture is filled with high hopes, rugged chal- lenges, and some deep doubts. May I say, however, that we have full confidence in the ability of our youth to meet every challenge in this rapidly-changing scene. Each of you has acquired the greatest heritage of modern times — first, in the rights and privileges of American citizen- ship and secondly, in living in this favored community. May you secure the full bene- fit that comes to those who share these blessings through a life of unselfish and devoted service. John H. Tyson, Superin tendent To the Class of 1960: The record of the 1950’s has been closed, and the decade will go down in history as a | eriod of great progress. The school year 1959-1960, at Upper Darby High School, will be remembered as one in which extra effort was directed to the pursuit of excellence. Since the school is responsible for de- veloping an environment of creative, ob- jective, and critical thinking, many changes have been made at Upper Darby during this year. The school day has been lengthened: we have gone from a six to a seven period day. Ninety-nine credits arc now required for graduation, instead of the former eighty-four. We now have ac- celerated classes in English XII, English XI, English X, Plane Geometry, Advanced Sociology, Chemistry, Physics, and Bi- ology. We offer four years each of Latin and Spanish and three years each of Ger- man and French. Next year we will con- tinue to upgrade our program. The willing cooperation of the Class of I960 in this new program has made the task of the administration easier. Your seriousness of purpose and your emphasis on high scholastic attainment should in- sure your future success. As your prin- cipal. I have taken pride in my associa- tion with you, and I look forward with great interest to your future accomplish- ments as they bring pleasure and satisfac- tion to you and glory to your Alma Mater. James E. Nancarrow, Principal DR. JAMES E. NANCARROW 16
