Th.e Unknown MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE In this day of space travel and rocketry, schools have been forced to improve their Science and Mathematics Departments. Upper Darby has met this challenge. The Science Department, under the leadership of Mr. McKin- ley Stevens, and the Mathematics Department, under the direction of Mr. John Diehl, are among the best of their kind in the country. The Upper Darby curriculum includes all sci- ences from biology to advanced physics, with mathematics courses ranging from remedial math to analytic geometry. These two departments are capable of han- dling all areas of scientific and mathematical instruction. Nevertheless, Upper Darby Science teachers are not satisfied to let the courses stand as they are; they are making plans to better them in the coming years. Be it the addition of calculus, or nuclear physics, as need arises new subjects will be added to those already offered. Turner Library, including collections in memory of four people active in school and community affairs in Upper Darby, bear wit- ness to the successful efforts of Miss Ruth Bassett, librarian, and Miss Emma R. Brogan, assistant- librarian. The library also includes general works of reference, such as atlases, dictionaries, and encyclopedias, basic aids for students. It is the library's policy to encourage the use of the library as a source of general information.
