“Castle of ©ur JDreams” Through the years Upper Darby has emerged from the storied little red school house to a great structure full of opportunity for nearly two thousand four hundred royal subjects. Our castle does not represent merely three years of academic study but also a chance for us to broaden our knowledge through the numerous extra-curricular activities offered. Acting, painting, writing, and competing in sports not only build one's knowledge, but give him pleasant experiences with others to reminisce about in years to come. In our high school we are surrounded by royal tradition. Our regal colors of purple and gold give every loyal Upi-Dite a feel- ing of pride. As the medieval European royalty participated in the joust, we modern Royals compete athletically with rival schools. Others of us are given an opportunity to exhibit our skills in various purple and gold contests and in intramural sports. On May Day comes the culmination of the U.D. color contest, when in festive Royal tradition, a queen is crowned. To enter the castle of Upper Darby, one does not have to be of royalty or high birth. Our administration and faculty did not attain their positions through family lineage, but by study and work. Through their efforts, they are directing us into paths of success. Kings and Queens do not hold their kingdoms together through a passive attitude, and we cannot hope to gain the full advantage of Upper Darby’s educational facilities solely through the efforts of the faculty. A student, to achieve highest success must study, as the ruler must enforce the laws in order to make his kingdom strong.
