Culver Mr. Edwin L Harer Microscopes, bunsen burners, and spring balances — these are the tools which students of science learn to utilize on the second floor of the new building. Under the direction of McKinley Stevens, the science department impresses upon the minds of pupils the lows, theories, and hypotheses of biology, physics, and chemistry. Sophomores learn why a pdramecium moves backward, what makes a frog jump, and why the human heart beats. Juniors who plan to enter the specialized fields of science, elect physics or advanced biology. Each year seniors are held responsible for the odors which come from the direction of the academic chemistry laboratory. The senior class is also fortunate in having courses in advanced physics, and accelerated chemistry. Twoes What is the omplitude of the cycloid os it passes through all functional valves from zero to infinity? Although this question might not be heard in Upper Darby's clossrooms. it typifies the amount of knowledge held by our mathe- matics department under the direction of Mr. John Diehl. Realizing how important a good foundation in math is. the deportment offers oil phoses of mathematics to students who wish to take advantage of them. The courses offered include: algebra I and II, plain and solid geometry, trigonometry, and odvonced algebra. Arts and Crofts students take a practical mathematics course designed to fit their special needs. Juniors who do not attain a satisfactory level of proficiency in Standard Tests in Arithmetic carry an additional course in Remedial Mathematics during their senior year. Mr. Robert N. Milne The rhythmic click of adding machines, the monotonous whirl of the stencil, the sweet strains of popular melodies, and the rasping ring of on alarm clock are heard. What do these noises signify? A jam session? Moss confusion? No! All are selections from the Com- mercial Symphony, led by Mr. Thomas Milne, department head. Through one of the four available courses, Accounting, Salesman- ship, Stenographic, or General Business, the deportment offers to every commercial student an adequate background for the specific position he wishes to obtain. Commercial students ably assist with the stenographic duties of the school. By typing, stenciling, and distributing the morning sheet stenographic students hove on excellent opportunity to practice what they learn in class. 18 Mr. Loeper teaches an Industrial Arts class.
