For seniors who hove shown outstanding ability in English, on accelerated closs offers an opportunity to advance more rapidly in their work. Stu- dents needing additional training in speech or reading may enter corrective classes. Courses in dramatics afford on excellent background in the techniques of acting. Mr. John M. To the Closs of 1957: In this era of rapid change you are moving into a period in our notional life when American in- genuity and ideology will be challenged by that of other peoples, each struggling for a place in the sun. You will shore in the inventive genius and the creative ability of the greatest nation in history and will enjoy a standard of living that your grand- parents never envisioned. This is a great privilege and an equally great responsibility. I am sure that you hove learned to appreciate these blessings fully and to dedicate your life to their preservation and enrichment. We appreciate what you hove done, individually and collectively, to add to the rich traditions of this great school. May each of you live a useful, full life — characterized by growth and achieve- ment, and dedicated to unselfish service to man- kind. Senior High School, making it possible to bring up a com- plete unit of seventh, eighth, and ninth graders. A new $3,125,000 Junior High School on State Road is presently under construction by school authority. This up-to-date building is expected to be completed by the fall of 1957 and will accommodate approximately 1400 pupils and seventy teachers. Of course, to render such valuable service, a group such os this must hove a capable leader. Dr. George Dilworth has served as president since 1941, ond acts as an inspira- tion and organizer to the other members of the board. Min Frances F. Weimer The acceleroted English class gives its attention to Miss Goukrodger. the wonderful world of hooks Miss Helen M. Mowry Juniors and seniors interested in careers in writing, public relations, or advertising, may elect courses in journalism: two classes in public speaking ore held for those interested in careers where proper speech habits are necessory. In the College Preparatory Course the aim is to prepare the students for college entrance. Vocabulary, grammar, composition, and literature play on important port in the course of study. In the junior year the department requires a research paper, an important factor for college training. In the Arts and Crofts course. English is'a requirement. General English classes emphasize skills needed by these pupils for whom high school is terminal. In the Business and Commercial Curriculums. the study of grammar occupies a great deal of time, because of the type of work these students will encounter upon graduation.
