Nancarrow Principal To the Class of 1957: The faculty of Upper Darby High School extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to the closs of 1957 upon the satisfactory completion of the prescribed courses in the curriculum. As you go out to take your place in the world, we trust that you have taken advantage of train- ing which has been available to you. and that you have properly equipped yourself to perform your duties os a good citizen and to meet your oppor- tunities as an individual. We hope that you will have the desire and the ability to produce some- thing which society needs, something which is constructive and of benefit to your fellow-men. May you participate creatively in the work of the world and constantly strive to serve. We shall watch your future achievements and note your progress. We extend our best wishes os you move on into a larger life of opportunities and challenges. Mr. Jesse Matlock Benefiting Planning and producing beneficial developments in the school system of Upper Darby is the heavy burden of our School Board. At their regular monthly meeting such items os selecting new foculty members and providing new school facilities for Upper Darby's 21.000 school children are discussed. The sincere effort and careful deliberation which these people put forth in searching for solutions to these problems makes every Upper Darby citizen grateful and proud. The increasing population of our township causes an overcrowded condition in our schools. In order to help remedy this situation and reduce the pressure on the present Junior High School on Garrett Rood, the School Board has developed a program for Junior High students at the Dr. Harlan F. To the Closs of 1957: In this era of rapid change you are moving into a period in our notional life when American in- genuity and ideology will be challenged by that of other peoples, each struggling for a place in the sun. You will shore in the inventive genius and the creative ability of the greatest nation in history and will enjoy a standard of living that your grand- parents never envisioned. This is a great privilege and an equally great responsibility. I am sure that you hove learned to appreciate these blessings fully and to dedicate your life to their preservation and enrichment. We appreciate what you hove done, individually and collectively, to add to the rich traditions of this great school. May each of you live a useful, full life — characterized by growth and achieve- ment, and dedicated to unselfish service to man- kind. Senior High School, making it possible to bring up a com- plete unit of seventh, eighth, and ninth graders. A new $3,125,000 Junior High School on State Road is presently under construction by school authority. This up-to-date building is expected to be completed by the fall of 1957 and will accommodate approximately 1400 pupils and seventy teachers. Of course, to render such valuable service, a group such os this must hove a capable leader. Dr. George Dilworth has served as president since 1941, ond acts as an inspira- tion and organizer to the other members of the board.
