r X I Foreword Tlx; ringmaster blows his whistle, the band strikes up a march, and the parade starts. The circus is in town! Under the big top the crowd looks on with amazement as the trapeze artists soar through the air in daring maneuvers. They laugh at the clowns frolicking about. They thrill as the lion trainer puts the big cats through their paces. But the most important part of the circus is what the crowd doesn't see. They very often don't realize all the hard work behind each performer's act. They forget about the many things that must be done before a show can open; unloading the trains, setting up the big top. and preparing the many acts before the final show. So it is in school. We go from day to day, class to class, little realizing all the work that must be done to make each day new and interesting. We want to see our teams win and we cheer them on, but do we think about all the prac- tice and time that goes into making a team good? We go to dances and plays to have a good time, but what about the months of preparation and hard work that make the successes ? In this year's Oak we have tried to bring out this simi- larity between school and circus. We have tried to show that there must be hard work in back of everything in order to make it worthwhile, but that there is fun in work. • •• • ' •. .0, V . •• • t L
