CADET TEACHERS Miss Belly Miadics helps a student in sewing class. Mr. Robert Old. taking over Mr. Hamsher’s English class. Learning by teaching, cadets from several nearby col- leges became acquainted with the routine at Upper Darby. After a period of observation, they took their places before classes, assisting both students and teachers. Their work was not limited to the classroom, for they were often seen performing duties in such places as study halls and tlx attendance office. It cannot be denied that the cadet teachers have con- tributed much to tlx school life with their friendliness and profitable instruction. L. to r.: Mrs. G. We'ant. commercial: R. The members of the Board of Educa- tion truly deserve applause for continued efforts in making the citizens of Upper Darby Township proud of their schools. Included in the Board's program are regular monthly meetings, led by the president. Dr. George G. Dilworth. who. because of his contributions in the past, was re-eiected in 1955 for a fifteenth term. At the present time, much en- deavor is being placed upon a project for the construction of a new junior high school, the final step in fulfilling the need caused by a rapid growth in popu- lation. Its completion, planned for the year 1957. will by no means bring an end to the work of the Board members, who are constantly seeking new areas for improvement.

SECRETARIES Jo Ann Newton Mrs. Margaret Boyd Students were not the only ones who worked hard at their desks all day. Our efficient secretarial staff came earlier and stayed later than most stu- dents. The many duties of tlx different offices kept the secretaries busy. Whether working at a mimeographing machine, typing a letter, filing a report card, sorting mail, or taking the telephone messages, the secretaries were an essential part of the smooth functioning of the school.
