MRS CATHERINE NICHOLS A NO HELPER Behind the Scenes UNDER the supervision of Mrs Catherine B. Nichols, the cafeteria staff functioned os on efficient and friendly group of workers. Preparing o well balonced lunch for every school doy, keeping the cafeteria in tip top condition at all times, and planning the menu for sports and publication banquets, kept this hard working group continuously busy. We were not the only ones to see and appreciate the splendid work of the cafeteria staff. Last year our cafeteria won second place in the state school cafeteria competition. This roting wos judged on kitchen manage- ment, food preparation, student conduct, and the generol condition of the cofeterio. Our cafeteria staff deserved this honor. These young adults were fulfilling college course requirements by prac- tice teaching in their particular field. They both observed and taught, often taking over classes completely in the absence of the regular instructor. The cadets' activities also included working in the attendance office, taking over study halls, and supervising the infirmary. Sometimes they even de- voted extra time to tutoring or speaking to some of UD's clubs. Faculty members, themselves, re- ceived some useful pointers on new methods of teaching from these who aspire to be teachers. The Upper Darby faculty and students extend their sincere thanks to the student teachers for a job well done and hope that they reach their goal to be successful instructors in their chosen profession.

BEHIND the scenes the Maintenance Staff worked diligently to keep our classrooms, cafe- teria, gymnasium, and campus neat and clean. Under the supervision of Mr. Charles W. Butter- worth, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds; Mr. Frank B. Haskell, and Mr. David Lewis, the staff functioned in order to make us comfortoble during school hours. Preparing the gymnasium for athletic events, reconditioning mutilated desks, regulating the temperature of the buildings, and keeping the grounds in good condition constituted only a few of their many invaluable services. When visitors praise our school for its clean, attractive appearance, the credit is due rightly to the Mainte- nance Staff. Pictured at the right from top to bottom: To the right: two members of the maintenance staff fixing an electrical bulb in hall. Center: two workers refinishing desks in the wood shop. Lower right: Mr. Lewis, head custodion, caught at the elevator door by the photographer. Each Did His Part MR. CHARLES BUTTERWORTH
