What is this which morning sunlight Gilds with golden beams? Tis our Upper Darby School, Costle of our dreams. Raise the chorus, keep it ringing. Loud her praises tell. Hail to thee, beloved High School! Hoil to thee, oil hail! FOREWORD JUST AS the actor anxiously awaits his curtain call on opening night, so we, the Class of 1955, anticipated our role at Upper Darby Senior High School. For three years now, we have staged our own three-act drama in the classrooms and halls of Upper Dorby. It is with pride that we conclude our high school days, which ore but one scene in the world's endless ploy. The theme of the 1955 OAK capitalizes on this thought of universal interest in the theatre, which we can apply to our own community of Upper Darby. Within the poges of this book, running heods illustrate this central thought and challenge us to take our ploce in the drama of the world — to make it a more enjoyable and a better place in which to live. We hope that this book, serving as our program to life, will remind everyone thot, All the world's a stoge, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances and one man in his time plays mony parts; his acts being

A Dedicated Citizen DR GEORGE G. DILWORTH Pictured in inset is Dr. Dilworth presenting ploque to Mr. Bcrmon's son ot the Berman Memorial Ceremony With him is Mr. George Hoebler, Ass stont to the Superintendent of Schools. DR. GEORGE G. DILWORTH, who holds o bachelor's degree from Swarthmore, a doctorate from Dickinson, became a member of the School Board in July, 1931, and hos been its president since 194i. Under his skillful direction, the Board operates as an effective unit. Difficult problems are faced promptly and courageously. Decisions are mode only after careful study and full understanding on the part of all members. The graciousness of Dr. Dilworth's manner, the warmth of his personality, the spontaneity of his humor, the sincerity of his interest have endeared him to the entire community. Although the responsibilities of his position as Secretory of the American Bible Society are quite heavy, he always finds time to speok ot a dedication program inaugurating new school facilities, a memorial service for o deceased foculty member, a testimonial reception for an editor emeritus. Completely dedicated to the best interests of the community which he has hod so large a part in building. Dr. Dilworth is also active on hospital and library boards; in youth and welfore agencies; in civic and church groups. As Dr. Dilworth begins his twenty-fifth year of service to the citizens of Upper Darby, we, the Class of 1955, are happy to honor a great community leader by dedicating this OAK, our bock of pleasant memories, to him. 7
