The secretaries, the maintenance crew, and the cafeteria staff play a very important part in oper- ating the school efficiently. The typewriter, symbolic of the secretaries’ hard work, accompanies them as they prepare senior records, answer telephones, and organize printed material for teachers. With quick smiles and pleasant voices, the secretaries answer the sometimes bothersome daily queries of students. The secretaries as pictured at the right arc: Mr- Apple, Mrs. Brockway, Mrs. Tracy. Mrs. Daggett. Mrs. Bevans, Mrs. Malin, Mrs. Paxton, and Mrs. Boyd. Mr. Charles W. Buttcrworth, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds: Mr Frank B. Haskell, Supervisor of Custodians: and Mr. David Lewis. Head Custodian, despite the added responsibility of the new gymnasium and academic wing, have kept the halls, rooms, and campus bright and clean. Shown below is Mr. Buttcrworth talking with Mr. Van Leer Bond, a member of the Upper Darby School Board. The cafeteria staff under the direction this year of Mrs Catherine B. Nichols, deserves much com- mendation for the well-balanced meals served daily and also for their willingness to help at large school dinners. . . . Our Very Own

Drexel Institute. Villanova College, Temple University, and the University oi Pennsylvania sent future teachers to Upper Darby for practice in instructing classes. The cadets' activities also in- cluded working in the attendance office, taking over study halls, and supervising the infirmary. Sometimes they even devoted extra time to tutoring or speaking to some of UD's clubs. Faculty mem- bers. themselves, received some useful pointers on new methods of teaching from these aspiring teachers. The Upper Darby faculty and students extend their sincere thanks to these student teachers for a job well done and hope that they reach their goal to be successful instructors in their chosen profession. The first semester cadet teachers are shown in the upper left: Row One. Mr. Hodges. Mr. Oppelt; Row Two: Miss Perri, Mrs. Bevins, Miss Wjlfond; Row Three: Miss Gallo. Miss Rizzuto. Night and Day This is the one ’Neath the moon And under the sun' Activities, exciting and stimulat- ing, keynote the lives of all Upper Darbians. Press Nights on the Acorn, early morning practices of the Band, and afternoon play rehearsals produce laughter in the halls and smiles on many faces. Through the rush of a last minute story and the momentary tragedy of a broken reed, high spirit pre- vails. Then amid the confusion of forgotten dance steps and misplaced music, the All School Show per- formers strive for perfection. Final- ly, as May Day approaches, the par- ticipants limber up for the day when they will lead their team on to victory . . . Activities set the pace . . . . . .
