Education — uppermost in the minds of the School Board members—is one of the outstanding features of Upper Darby Township and is one of the chief reasons for the amazing progress of a rapidly growing community. The School Board, responsible for selecting Upper Darby's faculty and providing new buildings and facilities for the ever growing school population, has done a superior job. We students thank the school board for their foresight in giving us teachers who will be understanding and develop within us latent potentialities. We students also thank the board members for the fine new academic wing and gymnasium, recently added to our high school. The elementary school children and their parents also feel as we do. The new Hillcrest school and its addition have been a great boon to their everyday lives. It Wouldn’t Be the Same . . . Superintendent of Schools. Mr. John H Tyson, has for a decade planned facilities for Upper Darby's increasing scho 1 population. The work has not been easy Mr. Tyson carried his hopes and dreams with him through the waning years of the Second World War and through the Korean War until finally, within the past few years, an addition to the high school has been added: the Primos School, the Hillcrest School and an addition have been built: and with the help of the SOO.OOO-dollar Bond Issue, a new fifteen-room elementary school will be constructed in the Westbrook Park area. A new junior high school is also forecast for the future. Mr. Tyson has not lacked experience for this enormous job of planning. He has been active in administrative positions for thirty-four years. Prior to his appointment as superintendent, he was prin- cipal of the Upper Darby Senior High School.
