MAINTENANCE When anything around the school needs to be cleaned or repaired. Upper Darby's staff of efficient maintenance men, super vised by Charles W. Butterworth, is always on the job. Thus, the department keeps the building and the campus in ship-shape. While some workers remove the dust and dirt from the inside of the building, others cut the grass, trim around the bushes and improve the appearance of the school as a whole. One may wonder who handles the jobs of assembling and dismantling the bleachers or who keeps things intact in the lunchroom or who washes all the win- dows and removes all waste from the waste-baskets. In each case it is the hard- working maintenance crew which performs the tasks. Upper: Dismantling bleacher is on the agenda for Mr. Finnarty, while Mr. Lewis, head janitor, checks hi tool». Center: Every bottle in its place i the motto of Mr. King, who checks on lunch- room cleanliness. Another trophy goes back in the case after a careful dusting by Mrs. Davis. Lover: Mr. I.ongacro make note of an assignment a hi fellow carpenter Mr. Wyatt repairs a broom. Mr. Butterworth discusses maintenance matters, while Mi Long takes noles.

Each morning the nine members of the cafeteria staff under the direction of Mrs. Albert O. Snyder, prepare a variety of healthful victuals for the 1200 customers, including both students and teachers, they must feed each day. Although some of the cafeteria's patrons select tasty individual dishes at cost, many of them choose the hot luncheon trays. According to Mrs. Helen N. Uting, Upper Darby’s cafeteria super- visor, these platters have become increas- ingly popular this year. This growing pop- ularity is a result of an effort to make the carefully planned menus nutritionally ade- quate and appetizing with the least possible expense for the buyers. As a result. Mrs. Uting feels that the cafeteria business as a whole has been better than ever this year. CAFETERIA i
