PHYSICAL EDUCATION and LIBRARY Eleven thousand books—for reading, refer- cncc, relaxation and research—line the shelves of UD’s well-stocked library. These range from heavy reference volumes to light fiction. Housed in the rather overcrowded library, these numer- ous volumes are cared for and distributed by Miss Ruth A. Leaman, librarian, and her assistant. Miss M. Ruth Bassett. In their un- tiring efforts to help students locate the right books for book reports or spare-time reading, the librarians are aided by members of the Library club. A program of body-building and healthful living through indoor gym work and outdoor athletics is the aim of the UD physical-education department, which also develops sportsmanship and teamwork. The training—an invaluable addition to the academic studies- -helps to provide a well-rounded preparation for adult living. Formal and uniform physical training under patient, experienced guidance provides many natural and practical ways of learning the rules of good citizenship. In addition to their work in the gym classes, the gym teachers serve as coaches for many of the UD athletic teams and, in that way, offer even broader training in teamwork and sports- manship.
