BOARD OF EDUCATION A great deal of credit is due the members of Upper Darby's Board of Education who have faithfully given their services to the school system so that all the schools in this district may run smoothly. Under the leadership of Dr. George G. Dilworth, who presides at its monthly meetings, the hoard has worked hard and long in order to better the school system. During the past year, the members have been busy with the plans for the construction of two new elementary schools and the completion of the senior-high-school addition. At the November election the township overwhelmingly approved the $1,850,000 school-bond issue to erect new buildings at Primos-Secane and Llanerch Hills. Work was also begun in the fall at the high school in prepara- tion for the new academic wing and modern gymnasium, which should be completed by th fall of 1951. The ground was leveled by bulldozers and steam-shovels, and the fields were covered with topsoil and seeded in preparation for these buildings. Upper Darby can proudly say that the school board—in realizing educational needs of a rapidly'growing township and in carrying out expansion plans along with its regular duties—has contributed immeasurably to both the school and the community. 12

JOHN H. TYSON SUPERINTENDENT John H. Tyson has shown outstanding leadership as superintendent of schools during the past seven years and as principal of Upper Darby high school during the 24 years prior to 1943. He has been active in educational societies and has endeavored to make the Upper Darby school system the best. Moreover, he has spent a great deal of time during the past few years ironing out the difficulties and details of the plans for the new high school. Although few students have the opportunity of knowing Mr. Tyson personally, those who do, realize that he is genuinely interested in them as individuals and as a school group. The students of Upper Darby high school, and especially the class of 1950, owe their thanks to Mr Tyson for all he has done for them in making their high- school days more enjoyable. 13 Superintendent Tyson compares notes with his assistant, Mr. Goas.
