E RCIAL The persons taking this course are qualified to become A-l stenographers. The hope of every girl, of course, is to become a private secretary. Other students elect Salesmanship. Here they are schooled in the rudiments of the selling business. They study Merchandise, Sales and Advertising, Commercial Law and Office Machines, Retail Selling, and other pertinent subjects. Those who feel that they wish to prepare for General Office work elect the General Business Course. At the end of the eleventh year, students are permitted to elect Distributive Education. Students other than Commercial ones may elect this course. These boys and girls, numbering usually between twenty'five and thirty, spend approximately half their time in class work and half in some actual job. Both their class room instruction and their on-the'job training is directed by Mr. Joseph Rhile. Upper Darby boasts one of the most inclusive and largest Commercial Courses in the suburbs.

COMM Upper Darby can be justly proud of its Commercial Course. Approxi- mately one-third of the student body elect one of the curricula of this course. The course offers these curricula: General Business, Accounting, Salesmanship, Stenography, and Distributive Education. This specialisation actually begins in the eleventh grade. In the ninth grade, where a choice is first made of the course one is to follow, all Commercial students take Commercial Arithmetic and Junior Business Training. In the tenth grade, all arc required to take Bookkeeping I. Those who find Bookkeeping to their liking may go on with the Accounting Course. Not many of the students choose to continue this rigorous course. Many of the girls and a very few boys take up the Steno- graphic Course. Stenography itself is a difficult and time-consuming subject. One can always identify a Stenographic student by her constant application to her notebook. She uses every spare minute to keep up with her practice.
