Illilyi 01 Il For two years the class of 1948 eagerly awaited the annual publlcatlon of Upper Darby Hugh School s yearbook the Oak Now we are prlylleged to experience the pleasure and satlsfactxon obtained from producmg the book ourselves In the Oak we have glven our best and hope that thus well thumbed yolume has faithfully recorded memories of three wonderful years at Upper Darby There have been many changes since we entered Upper Darby ln the fall of 1945 Of greatest sxgmficance was the end of World War II In our sophomore year the peace was so welcome that nothlnv else seemed xmportant But wnth the coming of 1941 we realized that the world was not yet at peace and that our responslbllltles were heavier than ever Living nn a land of plenty we failed to recogmze the poverty of the war torn countries However the end of 1947 and the dawn of 1948 found us formu latmg the Marshall Plan deslgned to assist Europe ln regaining its peace tune status In our own country the New Look presentlv holds sway and the perenmal fayorlte bubble gum has returned to delight the younger set and torture the elders In Upper Darby we are proud of our school and its accomplishments and hope that this yearbook will serye 'ls a permanent record of our 1948 Oak v f I 1 v I 4 , I V 1 n rg , .
