Having served Upper Darby in the capacity of principal for twenty-four years, John H. Tyson has now completed five years as superintendent of schools. Upper Darby is deeply grateful for hi? faithful and untiring service to both school and community. Although few students enjoy any personal contact with Mr. Tyson, we realize that he is genuinely interested in us as individuals, as a class and as a school, and in the problems which confront us in preparation for the future. He is willing to assist us in any way to further our projects. Plans for the expansion of the senior high, which arc so necessary if Upper Darby is to maintain its high standard, are also his deep concern. In addition, he is a loyal supporter of all our athletic contests. He frequently attends games, spurring the team to victory. The students of Upper Darby, and particularly the Class of 1948, wish to take this opportunity to ex- press their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Mr Tyson. Whenever our thoughts turn to our school life, we shall remember his helpful guidance through twelve profitable school years. Mr. Ty on, with all his work, takes time out to have his picture taken. It OAK D O F EDUCATION Credit is due to the members of the Upper Darby School Board for the part which they have played in enabling the schools of this district to run smoothly. This year, four new candidates were welcomed to the Board: Mrs. Lena M. Adelizzi, Dr. Edgar B. Cale, Mr. John C. Parry, and Mrs. Marion M. Sweeney. Members of longer standing include Dr. George G. Dilworth, President, Mr. John H. Frazier, Vice-President, Mr. Vanleer I. Bond, Dr. J. Vernon Ellson, and Mr. W. Harry Schaffer. In addition, many years of faithful service have been given by Mr. John J. Schiedel, Secretary, Mr. Stewart B. Harkness, Treasurer, Mr. R. Winfield Baile, Solicitor, and Mr. John H. Tyson, Superintendent. The paramount problem on the Board's agenda this year was that of expanding our school system. In order to cope with the increase in population, it will be necessary for Upper Darby to build new schools and to secure new educational facilities. We are proud of our School Board that has worked faith- fully and wisely in behalf of Upper Darby's students.

PRINCIPAL For our three years in Upper Darby, we have been under Dr. James Nancarrow's leadership and supervision; his jovial manner and ever-present smile are familiar to all of us. Many problems confront him, as principal of such a large school, but we are sure that Dr. Nancarrow has met and solved the ones of the present and the future, in order to make Upper Darby a worthy and efficient high school. Like a true Upper Darbyite, Dr. Nancarrow has taken a keen interest in our school's sports and all activities. In addition, he finds enjoyment in hunting, fishing, and general reading. Dr. Nancarrow came to Upper Darby in the fall of 1943 from Williamsport High School, where he was also principal; continuing in this capacity at Upper Darby, he has helped to make Upper Darby what it is today. In the years to come our thoughts will often return to the man who guided us through our three years at Upper Darby High School, and our lives will be richer from being under his influence during our high school years.
