FACULTY ILI SERVICE Capt. Roy W. Wolfgang Ensign Esther R. Kumjan We ARE indeed very grateful that of the thirteen men and women from the faculty who were in the service that all hut two of them have been released to return to civilian life. The two who still remain in Uncle Sam's service are Ensign Esther R. Kumjan and Captain Roy W. Wolfgang. At the beginning of the school year, Private First Class Murray Miller returned after fifteen months' service, eight of which was spent in Central and Northern Italy with the Medical Department of the Army. During the latter part of October, Captain Stanley Twoes returned to us from two and one-half years of service at various Army air fields throughout this country. Most of the time he was in Texas. Next to come back was Major Ralph M. Andersen, who had served as a Chaplain for over three years, He saw twenty-nine months of service in Africa, Italy, and France. About the same time. Sergeant William B. Kirk reported for school duty, having given Uncle Sam more than three years of his life, twenty-five months of which was spent in the Air Corps in England. It was several months before Sergeant Peter E. Bernardino came back. He had been in service about three and one-half years, spending some eleven months on Guam. Then we were pleased to have Lieutenant Lloyd L. Wolf join us after almost two years in the service, most of which he had spent in the South Pacific. As there was no opening in the history department at the time, Mr. Wolf was assigned to the Junior High School, but will be with us again in the fall. In April, Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis O. Goas came back after more than three years in the service. While he was in Washington most of the time, he spent four months in Europe and three months in Japan. A few days later, Lieutenant Carson J. Thompson, who had been on duty slightly more than three years, returned after having served at various Naval Air Stations throughout the country in the capacity of Athletic Officer. Captain Paul E. Schwartz was released in Sep- tember after three years. He was granted a leave of absence to work for his Doctor's degree at the Uni- versity of Chicago. Ensign James B. Bonder was released in August, 1945 after having served about a year and a half. He resigned to take work elsewhere. Captain Allan A. Howell was released in Janu- ary, 1946 after a service of four years, during which time he was a Public Relations Officer in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. He also resigned from Upper Darby to take a position with the American Air Lines of New York City. Lieutenant-Colonel John A. Wallace was released in April, 1946 after a service of about four and one- half years. During this time he was in the Airborne Transportation service. He also resigned from Up- per Darby to take a position at Beaver College. First Row: Mr. Miller, Mr. Goas, Mr. Wolf, Mr. Bernardino. Second Row: Mr. Kirk, Mr. Twoes, Mr. Thompson. Inset. Mr. Andersen.
