school torn This year the Board of Education has been glad to welcome home Dr. J. Vernon Ellson, who has been serving in the Army. During a part of his absence his place was ably filled by his wife. The main problem confronting the Board this year has been that relating to the building program. The Board hopes in the near future to renovate the old senior high school building and to add a new wing, auditorium, and gymnasium. There has been land to purchase, plans to be made, including the floating of a bond issue, and numerous other difficult problems to face. Upper Darby students look for' ward with confidence to having an adequate high school in the next few years. The Board has worked wisely and untiringly on these problems under the direction of its very capable president. Dr. George Dilworth. Dr. J. MfVP cLfsspoon sans Over the horse in gym class—this is the way we get our A’s. This is something like—we hope it is—a delicious cake that the girls in Miss Foster’s cooking class are stirring up . . . The popular Mr. Lower explaining one of those fetching specimens that he keeps to lure unsuspecting sophomores along the road to knowledge ... A group in the library looking more than usually studious . . . There’s probably a comic book hidden under those books somewhere . . . U.D.’s spacious study hall with its leather- upholstered seats and splendid lighting system.

The class of 1946 wishes to pay tribute to our school superintendent, John H. Tyson. Mr. Tyson has shown his skillful leadership as principal for twenty-four years, and his careful guidance as the superintendent of schools for the past three years. He has been active in educational societies, has shown a great interest in our com- munity life, and has endeavored to make our schools the best. We have great admiration for Mr. Tyson s fine judgment, his keen interest in all of our school activities, and his helpful advice in our athletic program. His faithful service and his concern for our welfare have won the deepest respect and friendship of both students and faculty. SixJroJ
