I I' l'li I ' IDX ll IIY TAY WISTALVAN THE Tayfvxfistalvan is a cluh for girls who are interested in the many types of literature. It is under the sponsorship of Miss Weinier, who has al' ways given friendly guidance and leadership. Outstanding in the activities of the cluh are the trips to the theatre to see some wellfknown plays and the tea which is given hy the memhers for their mothers. Une of the oldest and most popular cluhs. the name of Tayfvsfistalvan was derived from four au' thors Tay from Taylor, 'kWist from Wister, Alu from Alcott. and Van from Van Dyke. BEAUX ARTS l'lli Beaux Arts Cluh under the advisership of Miss Elizaheth Kingsley meets each Tuesday in Room 217. The purpose of this cluh is to afford those students artistically inclined a chance to supf plement their regular art class work. ln tune with the trend of times this cluh has sponsored a poster contest on war conservation. We have introduced two new activities: a doggicfroast at Naylor's Run and a Vx7ar Effort Art Service. This Service, under the leadership of Keith Culverf house, Beaux Arts' Secretary. makes posters, or per' forms other art service free of charge to various civic leaders and organizations in the community. DRAMUSCIUB IN 1925 the Dramus Cluh was organized hy stu' dents interested in singing, dancing, and acting. They were given an opportunity to display their talent in an operetta given annually, Last year this was replaced hy variety shows given to the students. Unfortunately. this year cluh activities have heen limited hy the illness of Mr. Haupt, the cluh sponsor. Finally, a new sponsor was ohtained in Miss Kumjan, and it is expected that the excellent activities of the cluh will he resumed.

A IIIVEBSIFIED CLUB ACTIVITY AT UTSTANDING in any high school's curricuf ' ' ' ' The lum are the extrafcurricular activities. clubs are an important part of these activities. Many different types of clubs are offered at Upper Darby,-library, dramatic, scientific, language and ones that deal with sports or games in one way or another. Faculty members give valuable aid in sponsoring the various clubs. The literary clubs are ones selves with poetry, literature, the year they study and talk books. The members attend a that concern them' and plays. During of the authors and play usually once a year. The scientific clubs are for those who are inter' ested in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and other such things. The dramatic clubs have planned and produced liys for the members of the armed forces. They h ' ssemf p 2 also present plays to the three classes in t eir a blies. The language clubs are valuable in promoting a friendly feeling toward the foreign nations. Through these clubs the students become more interested in the language because they learn of the people and their customs. The Riding Club, Fencing Club, Table Tennis, h A cher Club further the inter' Rifle Club, and t e r y est and ability of the students in those different fields. The Beaux Arts members ma e numerous posters for civilian defense work and other war work in the community. This year the Hi'Y, both girls' and boys,' did h for war work activities. During the year the l muc boys sponsored the collection of tin cans. The gir s made an afghan of knitted squares and also spon' . . k. sored a drive for silk and nylon stoc ings. Although we have a great many clubs, they are ll anized from the beginning. When interest we org is first created for a club in one certain field, those ' f lt member willing to be interested must get a acu y their sponsor. The sponsor and group, working together, must then work up a charter for the pros' pective club, and also a name must be decided upon. After the charter is drawn up it is presented to the Student Council. A special committee of the Counf cil would then either approve and pass the charter and club, or reject it. After the charter is accepted by the Council, the group has a right to call itself a club then. We are pleased with and proud of our clubs, and we hope that they will carry on to greater heights ' r anized. the work for which they were o g RIFLE CLUB MEMBERS of the Rifle Club, under the able supervision of Messrs. Wood, Billingslea, and Morris, can be found nearly every day up in the school's attic, blast' ing away at the distant targets. At the club's first meeting during the fall, it was decided that the team would be open to members of the club only and practice would begin but would not be held every day. This restriction was f the shortage of ammunition. As in former years, the club is a member of the National Rifle Association. immediately, necessary because o
