SS DAILY jQJPPER DARBY High School students come from so many various directions that there is no spot of interest that all pass daily. Sooner or later, however, we all find our way to the Sixty' ninth Street section, the great shopping and trans' portation center for many thousands of people. Here are many familiar scenes, such as those pictured on these pages,—students leaving a crowded trolley. West Chester Pike minus the “before the war” traffic, students crossing the street on their way to the movies and stores of this great area. Ten

A Typical American IIU.1I SCHOOL PPER DARBY represents what authors term a typical American community. The population is around 60,000; therefore, the district is neither too large nor too small. In all such communities the school plays an important part, and so it is with Upper Darby. The courses offered at Upper Darby Senior High School are varied; they are the Business, the Arts and Crafts, the Experience, and the College Pre' paratory. Of the pupils enrolled in the latter, 75 per cent go to college. We are particularly fortunate in having an excellent faculty of 84 members. Upper Darby is a very large school. In the sophomore class alone there are 686 students, then the junior class with 616, and 513 seniors, making a grand total of 1,815. The homes from which these people come are what we might term the upper middle class, for they are neither poor nor very wealthy. All in all we realize that it takes more than just a building to make a school, for it is the spirit of the students and faculty which makes Upper Darby High School the splendid school that it is.
