 AMERICANS Jf ’'Friendliness” is the order of the school day. In class, in laboratory, in gym, in assembly and in club, a genial friendliness prevails—not only between pupil and pupil but between pupil and teacher. ’’Courage,” although not quite of the same type perhaps that the author of the editorial had in mind, yet made of the same stuff—is also developed in school. Courage of one’s convic- tions, courage of one’s conscience—these are normal experiences. And ’’hope” is none the less obscure as a school lesson. The hope of making good, the hope of success is a driving force in the life of every high school student. And so the Schools of the Nation make their contributions toward making better Americans.
