THE CLUBS Our feathered-friends are well taken care of by the members of The Junior Izaak Walton League, who take it upon them- selves to set up feeding stations and shel- ters for the birds. Many a little trout owes his existence to these sportsmen, who have re-stccked the streams. The club's chief interest lies in the conservation of wild life and they are accomplishing a splendid job, os their outings and displays at sportsmen's shows will testify. — U D — Give a man a horse he can ride, might well be the theme song of the Riding Club, which is open to both boys ond girls This club, which rides twice a week, also holds a Horse Show in May, one of the high-spots of the year, in addition to a Rodeo held in January. A person desiring to become a full-fledged member, entitled to a pin, must ride at least ten times during a semester — U D — The appearance of Leeuwenhoek Society's name on the morning sheet, provokes puzzled looks and weird pronunciations from those unfamiliar with it—namely, student teoch- ers. Still, this unobtrusive club serves the biology department faithfully and well in the making of slides and in performing other similar tasks At the same time, they gain voluable experience for later years, when peering through a microscope may become a life's work. — U D — The crack of rifles and the garbed figures sprowled on the ground, in a European country, would suggest practice for a very real opposition. Fortunately, in our Rifle Club, the sharpshooters are only enjoying rifle practice os a hobby under the able supervision of Mr Morris and Mr Wood. The club has weekly practices throughout the school year and is affiliated with the National Rifle Association of America. — U D — Forty two

The members play for practice and enjoyment when they're not engaged in competition with other schools Dick Braendle is the ace chess player with Arthur Coffin os a close runner up. — U D — The Table Tennis Club has aimed to fur- nish recreation and pleasure for its members as well as competition This year, for the first time, the club had several matches with other schools. Out of four matches they won one. Ray Morris, a sophomore, is the table tennis champion. The club, one of the largest in the school, has a membership of seventy. Have you heard about my operation? The members of the Hippocrates Society eagerly visit medical schools, laboratories, ond hospitals to reap knowledge of ele- mentary medicine. The society was formed in 1938-1939 and hos os its adviser. Miss E, H Sommerfield. By observing modern medicine ond surgery through the attend- ance at operations, the members are able to see medicine in actual practice and per- haps gain inside moterial on just what makes us tick. — U D — E pluribus unum and Et tu Brute? are the extent of the knowledge many of us have about the Dead Language. To the members of the Latin Club it is enlivened by talks, ploys, and slides on Roman life at the monthly meeting The high-spot of the year usually comes in May when, don- ning an old sheet, anchored by safety pins and with a flowery garland about the head, the members meet with true Roman decorum, for a Roman banquet However, noticeably absent are the reclining couches. — U D —
