National Honor Society Junior Lori Nash receives her 4.0 certificate and pin at the Honors Night. Elizabeth Pusser welcomes new initiates and talks on character. Honors Night was held April 21 in the high school auditorium. All students with a 3.5 grade point average or better were honored and received a pin. A reception followed for parents and students. It was planned by the Home Ec. Club. National Honor Society inductions were held May 14. Seventy-two seniors and thirty-six juniors were tapped' Into the honor society. To be eligible a student must possess scholarship, leadership, character, and service. The students are voted on by a faculty committee. Officers of NHS are: Dick Franklin, president: Holly Keller, vice-president: Wendy Wi'Mams. secretary: Scott Buck, general manager: J. R. Prohaska. head tapper. Academic Awards Assembly, Honors Night, The annual Academic Awards assembly was held May 19 and over twenty-five scholarships and awards were presented. Awards were given for scholastic achievement, athletics, superior talent in language and home ecnomics, and various community projects. RIGHT: Pella Pheneger receives a certificate from Mr. Shelby for being awarded the Betty Crocker Search for Leadership Award. FAR RIGHT: Senior Ann Wolford shakes Mr. Shelby’s hand after being named the recipient of the McCullough Award for the most outstanding senior. She was chosen by a faculty committee. BELOW: Dr. James Mason, president of the Upper Arlington Booster Ciub, expresses congratulations to Wendy Johnson after receiving the Dick Larkins Sports Award for best female athlete. Art Show The annual art show exhibited over two hundred and fifty pieces in the areas of: oil paintings, water color, acrylic painting, prints, sculpture, drawing, crafts, photography, ceramics and multimedia. The show seemed to feature more of a variety of art and contained more photography. Mr. Jack Mann. Director of Admissions at the Columbus College of Art and Design, judged the show and selected twenty-four works of art as outstanding. Mr. Foley, head of the art department commented that. “The art staff was very pleased with the art show this year.” 30
