A student-elected council appoints students to city positions. These appointees spend time with city counterparts. Other students arc appointed to various civic committees, such as the Cultural Arts Commission. A student-elected Board of Hducation appoints school positions Highlight of the program is YIG Day when all participating students attend functions at the Municipal Services Building and an award luncheon. A Night at the Hop On November 9 over five hundred students dressed in the style of the fifties joined in the annual sock hop. Rolled-up jeans and slicked back hair were the rule for the guys, while the girls wore below-the-knec skirts, high pony tails and dark red lipstick Of course, everyone wore bobby socks and saddle shoes. The junior and senior classes sponsored the event, and disc jockey Bob Connors provided the music. Those who attended enjoyed three hours of bunny hop. jitterbug and twist sock hop 10
