Ll e xmte Zo CHILLICOTH OHIO'S FIRST CAPITAL RALPH F HEILMAN SR-MAYOR After Thirty Years of Tradition, The Golden Bear football team thrilled fans at the 1969 Homecoming game by stretching their winning streak to twenty-seven victories, approaching a new record. Seventy-seven hundred spectators endured thirty-degree weather to watch the Bears defeat the Chillicothe Cavaliers. 21-12. The Upper Arlington High School Marching Band added to the excitement of the gome with a sparkling haif-time show devoted to the United States' space program. One formation included the moon beside a star, accompanied by the tune. Good Morning. Starshine. Preparations for Homecoming began with the announcement of the theme. The sky's the limit. Students from each grade devoted many hours of painstaking work to the perfection of their class floats. Taking top honors in the competition was the senior float with the theme, Some Bear Over the Rainbow.” Second place prize went to the juniors, whose float depicted a Chillicothe football player resting in his grave. Highlighting the festivities Thursday evening was the first homecoming pep rally to take place in the new memorial stadium. Students massed at Jones and travelled the parade route to the high school. Senior girls built enthusiasm for the pep rally by riding tandems and bicycles behind their class float. At the rally, football tri-captains Ooug Miller. Jeff Stark, and Mark Zellmer crowned Sue Kolodzik the 1969 Homecom-ing Queen. She was attended by her court of Barb Mansfield. Joan Peterson. Libby Timmons, and Teresa Trousdale. Drawing the three-day celebration to a close was the Homecoming dance Saturday. October 18. with the sounds of The Factory.
