WILLIAM SCHNEIDER Plane Geometry. Algebra II Principles of mathematics are used widely in other courses and have many practical applications. Even if these principles are forgotten over the years, the habit of logical thinking which is instilled in mathematics students is worth the study of this subject. Algebra I gave students a basic understanding of equations and taught them to work with abstract symbols rather than numbers. It provided the foundation needed for Algebra II. which included more extensive work with equations. This year for the first time. Plane Geometry students learned how to use a slide rule. They studied axioms, postulates, and basic methods of proof; and with this background. Solid Geometry students studied the third dimension. Logarithms and proof by mathematics rather than by induction were studied in Analytical Geometry. Trigonometry covered trigonometric identities and functions. Logic and functions were studied in Math V in greater detail than in previous courses, and first-year college calculus was introduced. 22 MR. PETER STEVA Plano Geometry MRS.
