MR. ELLIS LUTZ English XI MRS. ELIZABETH RICHMOND English XII accurately and effectively MRS. VIVIAN SCHMIDT English XII Although the size of the student body in our school has greatly increased in recent years, individual attention was stressed in English classes. Literature, both American and foreign, and creative writing were studied on all levels. All students acquired a good background in literature from the summer reading program which was continued this year. Sophomores investigated American literature. Music and art of different periods in history were employed to help students understand the literature of these periods. Julius Caesar served as an introduction to Shakespeare's works. Shakespeare was also studied by juniors, who were introduced to tragedy with Macbeth. Their basic program was a survey of English literature as it has developed through the ages. Seniors examined contemporary literature. Included in their reading for the first time this year was The Scarlet Letter. Tragedy was studied in Hamlet. The perfection of composition skills was an important goal of the course. MRS. JEAN GUDDAT English XII 19 MR. CHARLES WILL English XII MISS VERA RANDALL English XII MISS JEANNE FELTS English XII.
