Principal vagal ol Dow ,X .gn-MPM Bells Are Ringing The June bell which rings good-bye to the seniors and a happy vacation to the underclassmen calls Principal joseph A. Dorff to the summer-long job of preparing for the opening day in September. Mr. Dorff, who started in at O. S. U. as a pre-med student, was graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He taught for a while in a one- room school house and later became an elementary school principal. His interest in administration work led him back to school where he got an M.A. in secondary education administration. Believing as he does that nothing can replace hard work and individual initiative, Mr. Dorff is pleased with the new system of ability grouping, which attempts to make the courses equally challenging to all students. Before the aims of secondary education can be effectively exe- cuted, however, they must be defined. Mr. Dorff has analyzed these aims: Secondary Education in the United States under the law is unique in the history of world education mainly because it is pro- vided free without discrimination of any kind. Pupils in high schools should constantly remind themselves of this great privilege and opportunity. Here is provided a chance to secure knowledge fundamental to so-called collegiate or ad- vanced training, or basic information that is terminal for some pupils who enter a vocation or life work immediately after high school. In either case basic facts and information are taught in the classrooms and mastery of these facts and information fscholar- ship? should be uppermost in the minds of the pupil.
