MR. ALEXANDER McLElSH - i J the Class of 1959: This year marks the final chapter in the growth and develop- ment of our school. Our buildings are completed, we have the first graduating class to spend four years on this campus and every phase of our school life is matured to the point where we can say with pride that we have arrived. lt has been a refreshing experience this year for the first time to know that we have alumni in the community or in college, and the contribution of our school to society in general will increase with the passing years. The Class of 1959 is about to join the ranks of those who spent happy years as Highlanders before stepping out to assume the responsibilities of adult lite. May their lives be rich and productive. A. During your years at Upland High School there have been instilled in you the basic habits of thought and action which will enable you to work your problems through to their logical conclusions. Since the one road to world peace and democratic living is through better education, l'm sure that you, as a Highlander, will do all in your power to provide equal or better opportunities for succeeding generations lt is my hope that not only have your teachers and many friends with whom you have associated here provided you with happy recollections, but also that they have fired you with zeal and deter- mination to make a Highlander count in the march of civilization.
