FOR EWORD As the years pass, history is being made for our dear school. The Class of '54 is attempting to en- rich this history through the publication of the first school Annual. We are naming our Annual THE EAGLE in hon- or of our school mascot. In this book we are trying to show in pictures and tell in words, the many deeds and activities that are being carried on at our school. I MEMQRIAM DAVID PINKERTON SCURLOCK. During the twelve yearsf1929 -19411 David Pinkerton Scurlock was principal, educational progress was very evi- dent. He gave his services freely and unselfishly for the es- tablishment and development of school buildings. His chief interest was creating an atmosphere for a high school in Hoke County. We are still building upon that foundation that he so courageously laid. He was a stalwart pioneer, a conscientious leader, and a sincere friend of humanity.
