When we first arrived we were totally in awe. Yet gradually we saw the light. Professors are people too. We began by being the model students; we arrived on time, never skipped a class, followed our syllabus ' diligently, and never asked for an extension. Yet as the blind fold came off, we learned the correct behavior. We began to saunter into class at 8:30 instead of 8:00, cut at least 3 classes a week, put off our reading until the night before the test, and turn in late papers. We finally realized what college was really like. As a diverse group of friendly, dedicated educators, dressed in the formi- dable black gowns, the faculty was willing to lessen the gap between teacher and student with a few beers at the Pub or a friendly dance at the SAE House. No matter what we were led to believe, we realized that Sewanee ' s faculty was there to help and not hinder our advancement toward that long awaited degree.
