Special Friends Kinship The Dunn County Kinship program is a dynamic group of volunteers from UW-Stout and the surrounding commu- nity. The group serves the needs of people many of us do not interact with during our daily lives. Kinship is a non- profit agency that provides a special friend to children who come from single parent families or dual parent families with a special need. The program bene- fits both adult volunteers and children involved in the project. Several Stout students provide an active role in activi- ties including one student who acts as administrative assistant. Other stu- dents serve as board members and vol- unteers. These volunteers are special friends. Special friends are adult volunteers who want to support the children and providefor their needs, nancy Moynihan, Director of Dunn County Kinshipsays, It is a way to provide uni- versity students the opportunityof do- ing community service work for experi- ence or just to developa sense of com- munity. Besides helping out the chil- dren, Kinshipis active in several other porjects. Some of these include Kinship Week, the planning and organizing of a recognition banquet, the planning of a weekend camping trip, and a member- ship drive. They are an active and vital part of the Menomonie community. SUf( Photograpncr Organizations - ■ 31

Changes In Store Activity Area A proposal for the development of the area under the UW-Stout Memorial Stu- dent Center Great Hall was approved by the Student Center Advisory Committee in conjunction with the Stout Student Association. The area will be developed into three separate areas for Stout student to uti- lize. The first section will be a multi- purpose area which will seat 250 peo- ple in a club-like environment. The second multi-purpose area will focus on student, faculty, and traveling art exhibits. These two segements are be- ing referred to as multi-purpose be- cause, although they have a main focus, they can be changed to meet the needs of the students. Both areas will be able to be used for workshops, perfor- mances, meetings, or speakers. The third area will be known as the Student Organization Center which will allow all student organizations to utilize work stations and filing cabinets which will house the individual group ' s records. Other amenities to be added to the space include three television areas to seat 20 people each, a vending area, and three group study areas. Construc- tion is expected to begin in 1 993 and be completed that same year. 1 1 f V surr 32 Organizations
