Special Friends Kinship The Dunn County Kinship program is a dynamic group of volunteers from UW-Stout and the surrounding commu- nity. The group serves the needs of people many of us do not interact with during our daily lives. Kinship is a non- profit agency that provides a special friend to children who come from single parent families or dual parent families with a special need. The program bene- fits both adult volunteers and children involved in the project. Several Stout students provide an active role in activi- ties including one student who acts as administrative assistant. Other stu- dents serve as board members and vol- unteers. These volunteers are special friends. Special friends are adult volunteers who want to support the children and providefor their needs, nancy Moynihan, Director of Dunn County Kinshipsays, It is a way to provide uni- versity students the opportunityof do- ing community service work for experi- ence or just to developa sense of com- munity. Besides helping out the chil- dren, Kinshipis active in several other porjects. Some of these include Kinship Week, the planning and organizing of a recognition banquet, the planning of a weekend camping trip, and a member- ship drive. They are an active and vital part of the Menomonie community. SUf( Photograpncr Organizations - ■ 31
