A Change In Perspective As students pass through Stout, their perspective of the campus changes. As freshmen, the campus may have appeared enormous, with too many places to go and not enough direc- tions. As the adventure begins into the various areas, the campus becomes more and more familiar. It is no longer necessary to leave fifteen minutes early for classes for fear of getting lost. Cutting through the library and the student center is an obvious short cut for those below zero days. The Bookstore is not entered unless absolutely necessary during the first four days of classes. Eating solo in the commons is no longer a traumatic experience. The where- abouts of the Zooplex and the Car- riage house is general knowledge. The path behind Applied Arts does lead somewhere. Weekends begin on Thursday, not Friday. Off-campus housing lists are available in the S5A office. SSA stands for Stout Student Association. 1985 and 1986 brought about new challenges and adventures for our returning students, as well as new students. The new student center opened, testing the wits of students to find the hidden staircases at each entrance. The registration process was moved completely from the Field- house to Bowman Mail. The Business Administration building was com- pletely rearranged. Bulldozers went full speed across Broadway, opening up additional parking. The Math de- partment moved up the hill to the top of Harvey Mall. Stella s house was diminished to a pile of boards and Fourteenth Avenue was closed. The card catalog at the library is gone, now it ' s ALI5 or nothing. The mobile units housing the Tower Yearbook were sold Stout is constantly in a state of transi- tion, just about the time it comes into perspective, it changes in one aspect or another. 6 Opening
