A New Focus 1985-86 brought a new focus on UW- Stout ' s campus. The student center has always been a place for students to go to congregate, study, watch a performer, shop, eat, play a video game, plan activities, and more. This year the center moved down the hill, and the new Memorial Student Center opened. The new center has a modem day look, with substantial improve- ments and expansions in comparison with the old student center. A patio was added to the Fawn to provide an ampitheater for outdoor performances when weather permit- ted. The Recreation Center added some new bowling alleys and pool tables and expanded to include a mini arcade. The Bookstore was upgraded and enlarged, replacing bookshelves with chrome grid walls and increasing its merchandise lines. Television monitors were installed throughout the Center to inform stu- dents of upcoming events and activi- ties. The Grandview Terrace replaced the former Snack Bar opening up their menu to include a variety of additional entres. Just outside the Grandview Terrace is the Terrace Shoppe which provides easy access for sweets and especially those famous union cookies. The old Printery and Information desk were replaced by the Service Center, providing a combination of services in one strategically located area. The Heritage Room replaced the old Presi- dents ' Room, adding a more elegant look with windows overlooking the Cobblestone Court. The Crystall Ball- room replaced the old Ballroom with a more glamorous touch including crystal chandeliers. Finally the Great Hall added a new focus to the Center, with the capacity to set-up for large groups along with a full stage making it very accommo- dating for speaker, concerts, and banquets. In 1985 and 1986 this facility certainly got a good workout. Many events that had perviously been held elsewhere moved to the Center this year. Par- ents ' Weekend was an excellent exam- ple. At one given time in the student center, parents and students could go to one of three performances, bowl, play pool, shop in the bookstore, look at exhibits, and eat in one of three areaS. Opening S
