As with many Stout programs Forensics is a learning experience. It allows students to develop their speaking skills through a variety of activities, both competitive and non- competitive. The Forensicsquad enters speech meets in Wisconsin and neighboring states. They also host many meets on campus. This year the twenty-nine students were advised by Michael Nicolai and Raymond Hayes. SPORTS Football Moves By Strides And Leaps 62 In the preceding thirteen years there hasn ' t been the excitement in Stout football that there was this season. Posting a 7-3 season record and a 5-3 conference mark, the ' 78 Bluedevil gridiron squad set some twenty eight records for individual and team performance on both the offense and defense. Head Coach Lyie Eidsness. in his second year at Stout, took a team with a 77 record of 2-8 and made them winners. The team looses only a few to graduation or transfer to other schools so 1979 looks bright indeed. 65 Out Of This Mess, Which One Will Be First?! 66 LS.D. LSD has a completely different meaning to a Cross Country runner. The mind altering process isn ' t one induced chemically, but rather is spiritual instead. LSD is the slogan used by the team to describe their training regime and it stands for Long, Slow. Distance. Seemingly endless miles in preparation for five mile courses. Long romps through the country side for half hour races. Dr. Lou Klitzke of the Education and Psychology Dept. served his second year as coach of the team, and under his teachings they were able to mark a good year, including winning their own Blue Devil invitational meet at Homecoming. Is that any way to warm up? Queens Of The Court Queens of the court ' was a title well deserved by this years womens tennis team. Vice President of Academic Affairs of the Student Senate Earl Gierke, Assistant Vice Chancellor 9 students moving to Stout this fall were not the only ones to make a big move. The textbook rental service also moved from behind the fieidhouse to the first floor of Ray Hall. Being in Ray Hall has its advantages. There is more floor space al- lowing more freedom for students while searching for books. It also allows more students to stand inside out of the cold during the winter. Probably the biggest advantage of being in Ray Hall is that it is more convenient for those hard working Stout students. SIGNATURES 98 SIGNATURES Just about every student on campus has had the op- portunity to eat a nneal at the commons or Tainter food service. There is usually something to please every appe- tite, whether it be a salad for those who eat light or meat and potato eaters. And. of course there is always a choice of desserts. Besides planning and preparing the food for every day meals, the food service caters special dinners and banquets upon request for dorms, floors, and organi- zations. Special dinners are also provided for special oc- casions and holidays. Students this year enjoyed a cos- tume contest on Halloween with prizes of food going to the best costume. They were entertained by a Polka band while enjoying a German meal for Octoberfest. Mouths watered at Thanksgiving and at Christmas when students enjoyed cornish hens and steak. Probably one of the most memorable meals was a five foot submarine sand- wich which ten people devoured. Lifesavers. a part of living. Grand Feast for Oktoberfest Music to dine by. Phi Sig Chi Lamba 104 Misc. Times PASTIMES Home Economic On Friday Oct. 7 the Stout students had the opportuni- ty to attend a Home Economics Conference. In the Morn- ing they had special speakers and different workshops. This left the afternoon free to attend the style show. The show had clothes fashioned after King Henry the Eight era. Ms. Sarah Cox was the coordinator with the help of Fashion Forum. Sampling the goodies. This was a favorite of King Henry the Eight. This is how you do it. Solar cooking? There were many different speakers and demonstrations. Leader- ship in Educational Administration , and Beginning Building Construction were just two of the the subjects that were covered. The three demonstrations were Plastic Processing Demo . Energy Demo , and The Use Of Practicum Education In Manufacturing Labs . There was a special attraction that featured a handcraft- ed airplane which was constructed by twenty five teach- ers that were attending Stout this past summer. Scanning the horizon. Homecoming Win The 1978 Homecoming week brought many good times. The Homecoming festivi- ties were kicked off by skit night at which each sponsor presented a skit introducing candidates for King and Queen. The honor of being Homecoming Royalty went to H.K.M.C. ' s Joe Dimeglio and Janet James. The whole campus really got into the spirit of homecoming. Students enjoyed brat fries, tug- of- wars and Oh yes, there was even the swallowing of real live mimnows. The high point of the Homecoming festivi- ties came when the Stout Bluedevils de- feated the Stevens Point Pointers 21 to 7. The Homecoming dance brought an end to the weeks activities, but the memories still live in the hearts of all. Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra The sounds echoing from Johnson Fieldhouse this evening were not of basketballs but of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Selections from Strauss. Brahms, and Tchaikousky thrilled the PHOTOGRAPHS 117 The Tower Staff would like to thank the people who helped with the publication of this Yearbook. TKank You! 118
