RESERVOIR RATS To mention crew is to conjure up in many minds the picture of eight Ivy League men of the Pabst Blue Ribbon era stroking away to the rhythm of a coxswain's orders along the banks of a quiet river - maybe the Schulykill in Philly. Not to explode such a quaint image, but have you had a chance to glimpse the power-packed modern day descendents of the Gay Nineties shells? Virginiats entry in the intercollegiate scene, dominated by Washington and Navy, can be found out Bar- racks Road at the Rivanna Reservoir most fall afternoons and spring dawns and twilights - pulling hard in practice sprints, or running and running and running to maintain physical condition. The glamor days like those of the 72 Olympics, in which former UVa team member Monk Terry rowed stroke, and current UVa oarsman Paul Wilson received alternate status are few and far between. 27
