Tulsais erratic kicking game was the deciding factor that allowed the Wildcats to gain their first of only two victories this season. TL' bounced back with a 31-6 Missouri Valley Conference victory over the Mean Creen of North Texas State in the home opener at Skelly Stadium. The Hurricane then traveled to Fayetteville, Arkansas and were blown out of the stadium by Frank Broyles' Razor- backs, 60-0. After this contest, in which absolutely nothing went according to plan for TU, the Colden Hurricane re- grouped its forces for the next game in Knoxville against the Yolunteers of Tennessee. The Hurricane and the Volunteers battled to a 10-10 tie for 59 minutes, but TU lost in the clos- ing seconds when a punt was returned for a Tennessee touchdown and a final score of 17-10. Tulsa head coach F. A. Dry began his seven-game winning streak against Wichita State. 35-13, for another MVC victo- ry. Tulsa then edged XVest Texas State 17-1-1 for its third win in the conference. Y FOGTBALL 19 4 The Golden Hurricane flew to Florida as a two-touchdown underdog. but defeated the Spartans of Tampa, 31-21. An- other victory away from home was a 37-7 rout of the Louis- ville Cardinals, which left Tulsa with four wins in Missouri Valley competition. Homecoming for the University of Tulsa Colden Hurricane was an impressive victory over New Mexico State, 28-7. This locally televised contest was Tulsa's fifth win in the Valley, clinching the conference championship. The Drake Bulldogs were next victim of the Hurricane of- fensive onslaught and the sixth conference team ot be beat- en by Tulsa. The final score from Des Moines was TU 52, Drake 1-1. The Colden Hurricane won its twelfth consecutive home victory for coach Dry, 30-14, over the Astro-Bluebonnett Bowl bound University of Houston. The Missouri Valley Conference Champs finished the season with seven straight wins, a 6-0 conference record and overall of eight wins and three losses. f . X - .1 A t . ft , N N L get . 4 j E 1 . We must ask ourselves, however, if the real education didn't come from learning how to survive such an institution with our wits in tact, or at least in tow. But now where have we been? X We have been here at school, in class, on the 'U', in the Union, in bed all day and up all night, living in conditions bright one moment and dismal the next. We have been here, but we also have journied beyond our surroundings and ourselves. And who have we been? We have been, for the most, whomever we have been pleased to be. We have neither apologized nor agonized over whom we have been, except occasionally to ourselves. In the lack of freedom, we have freed ourselves and in the lack of restraint, we have restrained. And what has happened here? We have been exposed to the beautiful, challenged to the impossible, tripped by the unexpected, beaconed by the noble, conditioned by the mundane, and tormented by the necessary. Indeed, we have experienced education. What now? We must not dwell on our successes. We must fly from them. Dan P.
