College of Fine Arts Offers training in musical fields . . . and probably only college in which enroll- ment increases as studies become more advanced . . . furnishes majority of talent for University band, orchestra and A Cappella choir . . . housed in Tyrrell Hall . . . where the Art Department is also found . . . as is the office of Dr. Pontius . . . College of Fine Arts is magnet for much praise and publicity . . . and some condemnation . . . when assortment of practice sessions blends into horrible clamor . . . and grates unaccustomed ears. . .Dean Lukken livens up A Cappella . . . and his private lessons. . .with directions such as sock it . . . visitors to offices of President Pontius wonder how he stands the noise . . . but he claims to enjoy it . . . and leaves his outer doors open frequently . . . art students do most of their work on third floor, but can be seen sketching most anywhere . . . Dean's outer office popu- lar gathering place for everyone . . . perhaps lured by the free phone . . . but causing no end of confusion . . . especially when answering phone, taking mes- sages and forgetting them . . . presented many programs of various nature . . . but climax-ed the year with All-University Concert at Convention Hall . . . and attracted 2500 enthusiastic listeners . . . who want the affair presented annually . . . although some would like to limit band to swing or boogie-Woogie styles . . . not satisfied with efforts of Director Penn and his musicians during football season . . . and when that group can stand or walk . . . and play swing . . . everyone will be happy . . . with possible exception of a few unbending faculty members . . . most difficult prob- lem is getting personnel of band, orchestra or A Cappella together for picture . . . and then it's impossible to get uniformity of dress. flaw- I n-.,....
