23 ADMINISTRATIVE CDFFICI Aside from carrying on reguIar cIass room vvorIc, the deans and directors of the University of I'oIedo are responsible for numerous other duties. 'Ihey must act as advisers, serve on committees, aid in administrative affairs and assist in other capacities. The University has five coIIeges, incIuding Education, Business Administration, Arts and Sciences, I.avv, and Engineering, giving degrees, vvith a Dean at the head of each. -Ihe .Iunior CoIIege is a separate coIIege of the first tvvo years of the University. The heads of these various coIIeges meet with Rresident Rhilip C. Nash to discuss poIicies concerning the University and any recommendations are referred to the Board of Directors. At these meetings the curricuIum of the different coIIeges are approved by the facuIty as a vvhoIe. IF anything unusuaI is suggested at the meetings such as starting a new department which vviII mean additionaI expenditures,it is turned over to the Board of Directors for con- sideration. Instructors are not usuaIIy confined to one coIIege due to an insufficient number of facuIty members,so that some must carry on a scheduIe of cIasses. reIated to more than one coIIege, In addition to the administrative vvorIc, the Deans meet vvith members of the facuIty of their department, and hoId conferences with students regarding vvorIc in the specific department. The generaI purpose of the administrative office of the University is to integrate various functions of the institution, to stimuIate professionaI study and specific study ofprobIems, and to promote the program of the administration vvorIc here.
