A L L - S I N G All Sing to most people means that four of the fraternities and four of the sororities put on a big show down in the Auditorium and everybody comes to hear the polished musical renditions. But to those who par- ticipate in All Sing, it means a great deal more. Liter- ally months before the night of All Sing the songs must be selected and time found in an already busy day for rehearsal. After a great deal of work the songs must be taken to tryouts to make the final preparations for the production that is viewed from out front on All Sing Night. It is indeed a far cry from the attempts at har- mony by each fraternity and sorority that were the be- ginning of All Sing twenty-nine years ago. ners for the girls. This time All Sing marked the last year that two songs would be sung by each of the finalists. The number of finalists has been increased to ten who will sing only one song each. It is felt that in this way more or- ganizations will be able to participate. The competition was particularly close all the way through, but Kappa Sigma finally brought home the ba- con for the fraternities and the Tri-Delts were the win- 28

C A R N I C U S Weeks of deciding, writing, and humorizing a script —weeks of fussing, cussing, practice—hours of head- aches. heartaches, tryouts, and the agonizing moments before the finalists are revealed. The announcement either brings exhilaration and a sense of achievement or piercing disappointment. The sum total can be only Carnicus. Over the years, Carnicus has evolved into one night of the best entertainment students of the university can produce. When the idea was first introduced on the campus, it took the form of a carnival and circus which began with parades and stunts, and climaxed with a dance and crowning of the Carnival Queen. Through- out the years, however, one event after another was abolished. During the war. even the stunts were abol- ished due to lack of participants. After 1945, however. Carnicus again assumed its rightful place on the calendar with the combination of stunts and skits into a hilarious night of fun and frolic. Then came the fatal word. Strict censorship would be enforced. Everyone thought that Carnicus had been dealt a death blow! Much to their surprise, the enter tainments reached an all-time high; never before had the judges had such a difficult time reaching a decision, and in no time before had the skits contained such va- rieties of originality and humor. As each year goes by, more and more people tangle with the thrilling events attached to Carnicus because each year seems to add some new novelty to the entire picture. I say.
