The Volunteer Beauty Ball, the exciting extravangaza of the year, v as high-lighted with the presentation of Miss Tennessee by Governor-elect Gordon Browning and the presentation of the twenty-four University of Tennessee beauties by the prominent Knoxvillian, Wayne Parkie. Sixty-five beauties competed for places in the '49 VOLUNTEER at the Beauty Pageant immediately proceed- ing the Ball. The stage setting for the Pageant v as one of breath- taking splendor. The beauties glided one by one through a misty haze of blue drapes to the eyes of the judges where twenty-four were selected and presented at the intermission of the Ball.
