Secretary Above is Governor Jim Nance McCord, an ex-ofhcio member of the Board of Trustees, one of the champions for the needs of the University, and a leader in the movement to build the state educational program around the University plan of Rresident instruction, re- search and extension? Above is pictured a group of the trustees on a tour of inspection last year. It was at this time that the trustees were taken around the Knoxville campus to survey the long-range needs of the University, and to see the progress that was being made on their program of construction. Judging from the plans now laid, they must have been pleased at the sight of fine new modified Gothic buildings being built to carry out the expansion. We hope to see more such building, too; if you donit think we need itelook around most any day at the crowded conditions. 15

Big things have been going on in the closed meetings held in the Board of Trustees, conference room on the second floor of Austin Peay Memorial. Behtting the board of directors of a huge corporation-and the University isn,t little business these days, eitherethe paneled room is spacious and impressive. Each trustee has his own chair Uabeled with a silver nameplatei and place around the long conference table. Top-secret plans of the campus of the future cover the walls, and at one end of the room is the life-sized statue of the Volunteeresymbol of the university. Here the board meets to act on pressing problems; recent- ly, their attention has been directed towards a Iong-range ex- pansion plan that should place the University of Tennessee right up there with the leaders. The board is made up of the following Tennesseans: THE HONORABLE JIM MCCORD ................................ Nashville MAJORiTHOMAS H. ALLEN .................................... Memphis MR. CLYDE B.
