The VOLUNTEER, with an eye on the distant future, hazards a guess as to the appearance of the University campus of tomorrow, or maybe the next day. At least we can dream, can,t we? Weld like to see the Student Union building across what is now Fifteenth Street, where it can be a logical and convenient hub upon which revolves a full college life. There it joins the three areas of development- learning, living, and playing. New buildings and additions to existing ones should help provide space for expanded enrollment and curricula. The proposed Medical Center drawn into Circle Park would make the University of Tennessee a leader in various lines of medical research. Possibly this blueprint for the future will never be realized . . . weire hoping that U-T outgrows even a pipedream such as this. Who knows?

Big things have been going on in the closed meetings held in the Board of Trustees, conference room on the second floor of Austin Peay Memorial. Behtting the board of directors of a huge corporation-and the University isn,t little business these days, eitherethe paneled room is spacious and impressive. Each trustee has his own chair Uabeled with a silver nameplatei and place around the long conference table. Top-secret plans of the campus of the future cover the walls, and at one end of the room is the life-sized statue of the Volunteeresymbol of the university. Here the board meets to act on pressing problems; recent- ly, their attention has been directed towards a Iong-range ex- pansion plan that should place the University of Tennessee right up there with the leaders. The board is made up of the following Tennesseans: THE HONORABLE JIM MCCORD ................................ Nashville MAJORiTHOMAS H. ALLEN .................................... Memphis MR. CLYDE B. AUSTIN ..................................... Greeneville COLONEL HARRY S. BERRY ................................ Hendersonville MR. W. P. COOPER .......................................... Shelbyville MR. WILLISTON M. Cox ....................................... Knoxville THE HONORABLE BURGIN E. DOSSETT ........................... Nashville GENERAL JAMES A. FOWLER .................................... Knoxville MR. JAMES T. GRANBERRY ................................... Btentwood 14
