F OREWORD N presenting this, the twenty-second I volume of the Volunteer, to our readers, we feel a just sense of 3 8 pride. Not that this book is one of own exceptional quality, but rather one that represents the conscientious efforts of the Editors to make it fulfill its purpose and mission. -:- -:- -.a -:- It has been our endeavor in gathering together this volume, to give to the future a glimpse of the spirit and sacrifices of those who fought in the great struggle, just passed. And also we have tried to present the varied activities of the University of Tennessee and its student body; friendships, studies, sports, ambitions- a crystallization of their ideals and their life. The production of a volume, such as this, results not only from the consistent efforts of the Editors, but also from the cooperation and aid of a large number of' students. To these we extend our appreciation, and share with them whatever credit that may be given. In judging the merits of this Volunteer, we wish only a fair and just consideration of its worth. While we cannot hope to attain any abundance of praise, we will consider our ef- forts not in vain, if our readers shall open this book, look for any phase of our college life, find it, and close these pages again, satisfied. h Q m N MEN: m a N IN ETEEN.
