Jsnmiii-ciiiMoiii coiiici Asheville, North Carolina President ' s Llesi3-e Scenes from the beautiful campus of the College in the Sky and a chronicle of the campus activities for the 1955-56 year are depicted in a most at- tractive manner in this issue of the Sumn.it. In the years ahead, this pictorial record of some of the most enjoyable phases of your college life »ill undoubtedly recall happj if not wholly carefree days spent on the campus on Sunset Mountain. The feeling of nostalgia thus induced »ill tend, we hope, to strengthen the bonds of loyalty between you and the College and give you rer.ev.ed interest in your Alas Mater. Throurb your devotion and support, nsnevilie-Biltmore College will attain increasingly greater stature In the educational world. Our community college has expanded its services far beyond tne work of the regular day students. In addition to an extensive variety of courses of- fered adults to satisfy individual needs, special attention is given to the needs of student nurses from the Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing, personnel of local and federal governmental agencies, business and industrial firms, and community agencies, y.ith the growing strength ana increasing scope of service of the College has come wider recognition. In North Carolina, the community college is coming into its own. local and state educational authorities and prominent laymen are extolling the virtues of this type of institution of higher learning and are pointing to the important role it will play in solving our educational problems in the critical years ahead. This year, for the first time, our State Legislature took note of the importance of the four existing community colleges in North Carolina and provided modest grants-in-aid for their support. Thus, it appears that the community college can look forward with confidence to a great new era in its history. The Summit is keeping pace with the development of the College. It con- tinues to grow in excellence and is attaining increasingly greater re- cognition. This year is no exception. My sincere congratulations to the editor, her staff, and the faculty advisor whose skill, planning and many hours of hard work have resulted in the production of this ex- cellent issue of the annual. My best wishes to all of you who leave our campus for new fields of activities. Glenn L. Bushey President dh Mr ■ ■09 SK?tJBiwFrwfn r Jiif«n, t
